Bella Vista, Italian for “beautiful sight”, is a South Philadelphia neighborhood bounded by 6th and 11th Streets and South Street and Washington Avenue. Philly’s historic Italian Market stretches along 9th Street between Wharton and Fitzwater, and is home to several notable Italian shops and restaurants as well as the recent presence of other cultures, including Vietnamese and Mexican.
Washington Avenue is filled with Southeast Asian soup and sandwich shops, authentic taquerias, higher-end restaurants and bars, and boasts Wing Phat Plaza, a Vietnamese restaurant and shopping center. On top of restaurants and shops along some of the larger streets, Bella Vista is dotted with some of the city’s best brunch and BYOs, making the perfect home for serious foodies.
Annual festivals in the neighborhood include the Italian Market Festival and Bella Vista Festa. Arts and cultural events in Bella Vista are centered on public concerts, coffeehouses, Mew Gallery, and the Fleisher Art Memorial.
